People have been asking this question for 2000 years and since God is the same yesterday, today and forever the answer has not changed. The knowledge of the future does not belong to us but one thing we know is to keep ourselves ready.

It is amusing that people would be concerned about the when while all along they dismiss the scriptures. A bit like "let us sin like pigs and dissipate ourselves into every imaginable sort of depravity and then at 5 minutes before midnight let us repent of our bad deeds and let us walk into heaven having had fun on both sides...

Of course nothing takes God by surprise. While salvation is free, following Christ and carrying your own cross will cost you everything you are. Mark my words: Not everyone who warms up the church pews will make it upstairs but it is also the Father's compassionate heart that no-one should perish.

For each one of us there is an appointed time to step into eternity - for that person then it is the time they will meet Christ.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. It seems that respect and reverence are in short supply in the 21st century. You might delude yourself that God doesn't care or doesn't see. Yet there is a point of accountability for each one of us.

It is easy to fashion ourselves a mental image of God that suits our purpose. That's called religion. God is not in it. He yearns for a relationship with the people he created - billions of them. (Compare that with the number of friends you have on social media...) He knows each one of us intimately. Whatever we are going through individually He cheers us on to overcome and finish the good work He started in us.

Are you seriously interested in that partnership? Or would you rather play with your own toys now and miss out on what He has prepared for us into eternity. Life on earth is short. Make the most of it but don't get attached here. This is not where we belong. We are only passing through. We are aliens belonging to a better place.

Have you enriched your prayer language recently? You feel your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling? What about grooming yourself to meet up with Christ? He lived on earth - there is nothing He doesn't know about. What we know is that He will come at a time no-one knows. Don't you like surprises? Not that sort? It kind of keeps you on your toes doesn't it? The joy of the Lord is your strength. Have you shared it with someone today, before it is too late?
