Contentment - the antidote to the rat race

by Trend Authority on 30 Oct 2011 permalink
More is better, so you think. But why are you never satisfied? Why is the goal post changing all the time? Taking stock and enjoying what you have now might save you some headaches later on.

Responding to every stimulation that comes you way is a sure way to lose control of your life. If you do not have set goals in writing the world around you is sure to get you to chase after the wrong things - ultimately at a cost you cannot afford (time and money).

Why not be happy with what you have now? Why not enjoying your existence and foster your relationships (something you cannot buy with money but with time only).

You only get one crack at living your life on earth - and as you already have noticed, life flies like an arrow. So you might as well make the most of it. Setting some directions and some goals is not as difficult as you might think.

It just happens that each one of us is wired to resonate with certain issues which we were created for. Due to your upbringing or your environment there are things in this world that you can become passionate about. Some achievement you would like to be remembered for.

Short of entering politics or climbing the ranks of the trade union there are worthwhile goals you can dedicate your life to - raising children in a safe and uplifting environment would be one!

You may not have the right connections but doors do open if you care to knock. Have you considered donating your time as a volunteer and serve your community? People will respect you for your choices and your altruistic motives.

Suddenly what used to shine as a must-have in your mind now fades away in comparison to something more fulfilling and more long term.

Another by-product of being focused for something worthwhile is that you will start to mingle with like-minded people. Do not neglect fellowship with folks who share your ideals.

You will discover that life is not a shopping mall but a fight for the control of your mind. Forces are at play to get you to compromise your standards and get sidetracked on all sorts of make-me-feel-good side issues.

Like a sailor at sea you need to keep your bearings through hail, rain or shine. Reaching your first destination will be a boost to your self-esteem and your self worth. Having completed your first achievement, do not rest on your laurels. Take a sabbatical, look around for the next worthy cause and take the challenge.

Taking stock of where you spend your time will reveal what are the things you value the most - be it relationships, making yourself feel good or just hoarding money...
