Comfort your worst enemyby Trend Authority on 22 May 2011 permalink
Taking care of yourself is a self-preservation instinct. But comfort can also be known by another name: complacency.
Just like you see avid joggers running on a cold winter morning in search of fitness you may wonder if some people actually put themselves out to be stretched in the area of finance, knowledge or relationships. Do you know someone who is reeling from a divorce? Have you opened your home to offer a safe environment for recovery? Do you keep abreast of emerging trends in your field of expertise so that you may steer your career where new opportunities will be? Or do you wait to be retrenched to do something about it with the view of collecting a golden handshake or some government benefit? Is the guestroom in your house filled with junk, discarded furniture and other impediments or it is kept in shape so that you can bless an unforseen visitor? Do you make just enough money to cater for your needs because you do not want to pay too much taxes or do you aim at having enough resources to be empowered to act on the cause you feel strongly about? Do you go the extra mile to be reconciled with a disenfranchised family member or do you sing to yourself "que sera, sera"? Have you set aside some extra cash for an emergency? Would you be ready to use it to stand in the gap for someone in need you care about? If you run your own business do you shy away from hiring staff - cruising along nicely just by yourself, or do you see your potential to train and provide employment for others? Do you volunteer to teach at your local community center or do you spend your spare time watching degrading soap operas to ease your boredom? Do you speak to the checkout operator when you do the groceries or do you rush home to connect with social media - people you can neither see nor hear? Do you know your neighbours by name, do you keep abreast of local issues, do you engage in local politics or are you resigned to think your voice does not count? The choice is yours: you may choose to step out of your comfort zone at your own choosing or at the worst possible time you will be thrown in the deep end because you ignored all the opportunities beforehand.
